taking vitamin B
supplements may help reduce the risk of stroke by as much as 7 percent. Although vitamin B supplements reduced the
risk of stroke, it did not appear to reduce the severity of strokes or the risk
of death from stroke.
Taking Vitamin B
supplements has its fans and foes, with some studies concluding that taking
vitamin B supplements may actually increase the risk of stroke.
Data from the study,
published in the journal Neurology, found that “the ability of vitamin B to reduce stroke
risk may be influenced by a number of other factors, such as the body's
absorption rate, the amount of folic acid or vitamin B12 concentration in the
blood, and whether a person has kidney disease or high blood pressure.”
It is advisable to
discuss taking any vitamin supplements with your healthcare provider before starting
a vitamin regimen.
